Barrier Compromized

The skin barrier is a dynamic structure. Not a wall, but a constantly maintained equilibrium of lipids, proteins, and moisture. When it's depleted by over-exfoliation, harsh weather, or sensitizing ingredients, skin loses water faster than it can retain it, and becomes more reactive to things it would otherwise tolerate. Rebuilding the barrier replenishes what's been stripped, and calming botanicals reduce the inflammatory signals triggered by a barrier in distress.
